In 2006, the top overseas born communities were from England, followed by Italy, New Zealand, Vietnam, China and Greece. In 2001, Italy and Greece were ranked second and third. Population numbers from the traditional European source countries are declining due to ageing. However, these communities are still very dominant because of the large number of second and subsequent generations. In 2006, those born in China, New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka an Malaysia have increased rapidly from the 2001 Census. There is also significant increase in the number of new and emerging community groups such as those born in Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan.
